Instructions
- 1
Activate the yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar. Whisk together and let sit for 5 minutes, until the yeast begins to foam.
- 2
Whisk in the egg, melted butter, remaining 2 teaspoons of sugar, and salt until well combined.
- 3
Add the flour and gradually mix in the flour until a shaggy dough forms.
- 4
Transfer the dough to a clean, lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Return the dough to the mixing bowl and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Place in a warm spot for approximately 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 6
Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a clean surface. Divide into 10–12 equal pieces and roll each into a smooth ball.
- 7
Lightly butter a 9x9-inch baking dish and arrange the dough balls evenly inside.
- 8
Cover the baking dish with a clean kitchen towel and place in a warm spot for approximately 30 minutes, or until the rolls are noticeably puffy.
- 9
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake the rolls for approximately 20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the centers are cooked through.
- 10
Remove from the oven and serve warm. For an extra buttery finish, brush the tops with melted butter before serving.
